Asian shares open tentatively as earnings season looms over tech valuations
Asian share markets opened cautiously on Monday as earnings season loomed over high technology valuations, with South Korean stocks down 1.1% and Japanese markets shut for a holiday. Brent slipped about 1% to roughly $103.5 a barrel and US crude fell to about $90.7 after President Trump announced an “energy ceasefire” between Russia and Ukraine that neither side had confirmed, and after his proposal to lift Russian diesel exports drew criticism from senators in both parties. Wall Street and European futures edged higher.
