S&P 500 closes above 7,800 for the first time as Treasury yields ease
The S&P 500 rose 0.58% to a record 7,818.93, its first close above 7,800, while the Nasdaq Composite added 0.45% to another all-time high of 27,599.79 and the Dow gained 0.49% to 51,521.28. The advance came as the 10-year Treasury yield pulled back about four basis points to 5.27%, easing from Monday's 24-year high above 5.35%. The rally was narrow: chip and power names led, the Russell 2000 small-cap index fell 0.59%, and Nasdaq decliners outnumbered advancers.
