Chinese AI models close to within 3% of US leaders, Bloomberg Intelligence says
The benchmark gap between China's best AI models and America's has narrowed to about 3%, according to a Bloomberg Intelligence assessment, down from roughly 9% in May and about 15% earlier in the year. The firm attributes much of the shift to DeepSeek's V4.1 Flash release in September. The finding sharpens a debate in Washington over export controls, which have been loosened on some Nvidia and AMD parts this year while domestic Chinese accelerators gain ground.
