Euro-area inflation jumps to 3.8%, a three-year high

Euro-area annual inflation is expected to reach 3.8% in September, up from 3.2% in August and above market expectations of 3.6%, according to Eurostat's flash estimate, the highest reading in three years. Energy prices drove the increase, rising 18.8% year on year, while services inflation held at 3.2%. Prices rose 0.6% on the month. The European Central Bank meets on 28-29 October against a fuel-led price shock that is hard to answer with interest rates alone.
