US stocks close mixed as semis lead narrow tech rally on September 18
US stocks closed mixed on Thursday with the Nasdaq 100 up 0.79 percent and the S&P 500 up 0.04 percent, while the S&P 500 Equal Weight fell 0.39 percent and the Russell 2000 lost 0.50 percent, underscoring narrow breadth led by mega-cap tech. The Technology ETF rose 0.89 percent against a 1.67 percent slide in Communication Services, while the Semiconductor ETF added 2.04 percent on a SanDisk surge of 10.99 percent, Micron up 3.92 percent and Lam Research up 6.98 percent. J.P. Morgan estimates the CoWoS shortfall has narrowed to about 10 percent.
