ECB holds next rate decision for 9 September with markets pricing 25bp hike to 2.50%

The European Central Bank's next monetary policy meeting is scheduled for 9 September, with ECB Watch Tool showing markets imply a 100% probability of a 25bp hike that would lift the deposit facility rate from the current 2.25% to 2.50%. The 11 June decision raised the deposit rate by 25bp to 2.25% and the main refinancing rate to 2.40%, citing Middle East-driven energy inflation, while new staff projections pointed to headline HICP of 3.0% in 2026, 2.3% in 2027 and 2.0% in 2028 with growth lowered to 0.8%, 1.2% and 1.5% respectively.
