SpaceX buys nationwide 800 MHz spectrum to build out Starlink Mobile
SpaceX has agreed to acquire up to 14 megahertz of paired nationwide 800 MHz low-band spectrum from investment firm Grain Management, a deal it says will let Starlink Mobile combine satellite and terrestrial coverage and compete with AT&T, T-Mobile and Verizon. The licence transfer, filed with the FCC, covers roughly the whole US population though it varies by county; Grain had bought the licences from T-Mobile earlier this year. Carriers fell sharply on the news, with T-Mobile down about 13 per cent, AT&T around 10 per cent and Verizon roughly 9 per cent.
