Amazon explores shifting $8bn of Nvidia chips into an outside-funded vehicle
Amazon is exploring a deal to move about $8 billion of advanced Nvidia Grace Blackwell chips off its balance sheet and into a special-purpose vehicle backed by outside investors, according to the Financial Times. The chips, installed across more than a dozen US data centres, would be leased back by Amazon, letting the company keep using the hardware under a more asset-light financing model. The vehicle could issue debt and sell up to a 10% equity stake. Amazon has said it expects about $220 billion of capital spending this year, mostly for AI.
