Anthropic says it disrupted an AI-built election influence network targeting Malaysia

Anthropic said it identified and shut down an influence operation that used Claude to build constituency-level voter profiles across Malaysia's 222 parliamentary seats, running about 1,000 fake X accounts, a bogus outlet called 'Malaysia Pulse' and fabricated intelligence dossiers. The company detailed the case in its September threat-intelligence report, covering activity disrupted between December 2025 and August 2026. Researchers warned the technique could be repeated as south-east Asian countries head to the polls, though the Malaysia effort proved ineffective once Anthropic intervened.
