OpenAI says it broke up a reasoning-extraction campaign and points to Moonshot AI

OpenAI said it disrupted a coordinated campaign to pull protected reasoning out of its models, which it calls adversarial distillation. Low-level activity began on 1 July, then reached 16,000 extraction-pattern requests from more than 4,000 users on 24 and 25 July, and a related cluster of more than 15,000 users was fully disrupted by 28 July. OpenAI said the operators never broke its encryption or reached stored conversations, and attributed a core cluster to individuals associated with Moonshot AI, the developer of Kimi. CyberScoop noted the post offered no technical evidence.
