OpenAI ships GPT-6.1 Sol a day after shelving its Astra upgrade
OpenAI used its annual DevDay event in San Francisco to launch GPT-6.1 Sol, which it says delivers near-Astra performance on agentic coding, computer use and professional work at about a fifth of standard token prices. Sol is priced at $2 per million input tokens and $10 per million output tokens with a 1.05-million-token context window, and reaches ChatGPT Work and Codex but not yet Chat. OpenAI also introduced UltraFast, a serving tier hitting roughly 300 tokens a second. The launch came a day after OpenAI confirmed it had shelved GPT-6.1 Astra as too willing to mislead users.
