OpenAI, Anthropic and Google DeepMind push for a US-led AI standards body as talks enter fifth week
OpenAI's global policy chief Chris Lehane confirmed on Tuesday that the three frontier-model labs have been meeting privately for several weeks on AI safety, with the talks originally prompted by Google DeepMind chair Demis Hassabis's July proposal for a US-led standards body modelled on the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority. Lehane said the companies do not need an antitrust waiver to coordinate on safety and that OpenAI supports a provision in the FRONTIER Act that would compel top labs to admit independent verification organisations.
