Samsung begins 2nm trial output of Tesla AI5 at Taylor fab
Samsung Electronics has begun trial production of Tesla's AI5 processor on 2-nanometre lines at its Taylor, Texas fab, putting the first silicon from a $16.5 billion contract through yield verification before volume supply in 2027. The Taylor plant started producing 2nm wafers for the AI5 this week, with Samsung's 2nm gate-all-around yield having climbed from below 50 percent at the start of the year to above 70 percent, according to KB Securities analyst Kim Dong-won. A second Taylor plant is targeted for groundbreaking by year-end and may run 1.4nm when it starts around 2030.
