Altman tells Fortune OpenAI will not IPO in 2026, citing 'ill-advised moment' over AI safety
OpenAI chief executive Sam Altman said the company will not go public this year, telling Fortune that 'given everything happening with safety, right now would be an ill-advised moment to go public, and we don't feel pressure on that'. Altman confirmed his support for Anthropic's 'pace the frontier' framework and said OpenAI would embed third-party evaluators with employee-like access. Bloomberg reports SoftBank's OpenAI bet fell sharply in Tokyo over the weekend, with the conglomerate's shares down roughly 13%.
