Qualcomm previews Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 NPU for 30B-parameter on-device AI agents
Ahead of its September 22 Snapdragon Summit, Qualcomm has detailed the redesigned Hexagon NPU that will headline the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 6 platform. The new NPU adds an 'Element Accelerator' and substantially larger shared memory, enabling phones to run roughly 30B-parameter mixture-of-experts models locally with about 3B active parameters per token, while the Oryon CPU retains a 2+3+3 layout on TSMC's 2nm process.
