OpenAI commits $1 billion to frontline defenders via Daybreak cyber program
OpenAI framed its Daybreak for Frontline Defenders program as a $1 billion commitment expanding access to its frontier cyber AI, training and incident-response support for essential service providers. The launch follows the early-September release of GPT-6 Astra, the first OpenAI model classified Critical under the Preparedness Framework for autonomously finding and exploiting vulnerabilities. Daybreak is positioned as the controlled-access counterpart for screened enterprise and infrastructure customers that need the same capability class with stronger guardrails.
