Tesla opens Cybercab rides to the public in Austin as US safety agency says it is evaluating the rollout
Tesla began offering public rides in its two-seat Cybercab, a gold vehicle with no steering wheel or pedals, in limited areas of Austin on 3 September, with CEO Elon Musk framing the launch as the start of a driverless ride-hailing fleet. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration said it is in contact with Tesla and evaluating the situation, though no formal investigation has been opened; Reuters reporters described long waits and trips ending short of their destinations during testing.
