US durable-goods orders jump 1.1% in July as transportation equipment rebounds
New orders for US manufactured durable goods rose 1.1% in July to $339.3 billion, the Commerce Department said on Wednesday, well above the 0.5% consensus. Transportation equipment led the gain with a 2.3% rise as nondefense aircraft and parts surged 12.7% after a 51.1% May plunge, while orders excluding transportation climbed 0.4% and the closely watched nondefense capital goods ex-aircraft proxy edged up 0.2% to $85.9 billion.
