Britain puts £100m behind a national AI biosecurity lab
The UK will fund a National AI Biosecurity Lab with £100m from Wednesday's Budget, alongside £120m more for the AI Security Institute, £60m for a 'National Cyber Shield' built on agentic AI and £70m for a vulnerability-detection centre. OpenAI and Anthropic are contributing £200m of model credits. Ministers call the lab a world first, though its remit is still undefined, and the package lands after AI-assisted bug hunting forced British sites offline.
