Tesla starts Optimus production in Fremont as quarterly profit falls 43%
Tesla began building production-quality Optimus humanoid robots at its Fremont factory in space once used for electric vehicles, with Elon Musk calling the ramp slow and bumpy and targeting 20,000 units a week by the end of 2027 while conceding the design and the robot's AI still need work. The quarter was weak: revenue slipped to $28.04 billion from $28.09 billion a year earlier, net income fell 43% to $787 million, energy revenue dropped 16% and services grew 33%. Unsupervised Full Self-Driving slipped again, with customer robotaxi vehicles expected around the second quarter of next year.
