Nobel Prize in Chemistry goes to Soai and Kagan for mirror-image molecules
Japanese chemist Kenso Soai and French researcher Henri Kagan won the 2026 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for work on chirality, the way molecules that are mirror images of one another behave differently. The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences said the laureates answered a long-standing question about how such handedness arises and propagates. Soai, 76, is an emeritus professor at the Tokyo University of Science; Kagan, 95, is emeritus at Universite Paris-Sud. The award followed this week's medicine prize.
