OpenAI retires four Completions-era models and points developers at gpt-5.6-terra
OpenAI's deprecations page lists 28 September 2026 as the shutdown date for four Completions-era models: gpt-3.5-turbo-instruct, babbage-002, davinci-002 and gpt-3.5-turbo-1106, all with gpt-5.6-terra as the recommended replacement. A larger wave covering gpt-4, gpt-3.5-turbo, gpt-4-turbo, o1 and o3-mini carries a 23 October 2026 date, and GPT-5 and o3 snapshots are set to retire on 11 December 2026.
