AWS confirms permanent data loss for customers hosted only in Bahrain after March conflict damage
Amazon Web Services has confirmed it cannot restore data held only in parts of its Middle East regions damaged in the conflict with Iran, formalising a months-long outage as a permanent write-off for some workloads. In a status update, AWS said damage in Bahrain 'spanned multiple Availability Zones and exceeded what our regional and multi-AZ services are designed to withstand.' Data hosted only in the mec1-az2 zone of me-central-1 (UAE) cannot be recovered; AWS now steers customers to other regions and cites Bahrain restoration in early 2027.
