Anthropic signed its first data centre lease in Australia, securing capacity at a planned Zerra DC facility in a deal reported to be one of the largest AI compute commitments in the country to date. The Sydney-based agreement is said to source renewable power purchase agreements and pass through grid connection costs without burdening existing customers, with construction priced around $30 billion and operations targeted to begin next year subject to approvals.
