AFC Champions League Elite opens with mixed fortunes for UAE's Shabab Al Ahli and Al Wasl
The AFC Champions League Elite league phase began on Monday with mixed results for the UAE clubs. Shabab Al Ahli took all three points with a 1-0 home win over Iran's Tractor, settled by Yuri Cesar's opportunistic 22nd-minute strike at the Rashid Stadium. Al Wasl fell 2-1 away to Saudi debutants Al Qadsiah, conceding goals to Mexican forward Julian Quinones and Mateo Retegui after the 57th minute. Elsewhere Al Ittihad needed a 94th-minute Georginio Wijnaldum equaliser to rescue a point at Al Shamal.
