Microsoft-OpenAI recapitalization values ChatGPT maker at $500 billion, ends nonprofit control
Microsoft and OpenAI have completed a recapitalization that values the ChatGPT maker at $500 billion and transitions it into a public benefit corporation, ending governance by the original nonprofit board. Under the deal Microsoft holds an investment in OpenAI Group PBC valued at roughly $135 billion, with the nonprofit arm receiving more than $100 billion, about 20 percent of the $500 billion valuation.
