Apple's A20 Pro pairs TSMC's 2nm with WMCM packaging as a DRAM bottleneck reshapes the iPhone 18 launch curve
Apple's A20 Pro, the first phone chip on TSMC's 2nm N2 node, moves from a 6-core to a 7-core GPU and lifts the efficiency-core L2 cache to 8MB, paired with 12GB of LPDDR5X via TSMC's WMCM packaging. Die-shot leaks put performance at roughly 18% faster than the A19 Pro with around 30% better power efficiency, but packaging is now the rate-limiter: a tight LPDDR market has reportedly left around a billion dollars' worth of N2 wafers waiting at TSMC for memory, and Ming-Chi Kuo has rebutted the headline while agreeing the shortage is real.
