John Ternus formally takes over as Apple CEO as Tim Cook moves to executive chairman
Apple confirmed on 1 September 2026 that John Ternus, the 51-year-old head of hardware engineering who joined Apple in 2001, has become the company's eighth chief executive, while Tim Cook transitions to the new role of executive chairman after 15 years leading the group. Cook's tenure lifted Apple's market value from roughly $350 billion to about $4 trillion and quadrupled annual revenue to more than $416 billion; Ternus inherits a leadership page that now also lists Kevan Parekh as CFO, Johny Srouji as chief hardware officer and Sabih Khan as COO.
